It seems that almost any major event, personal choice, and anything in between is infuenced by the media. As major agent of socialization, the media is a force to be reckoned with. However, at what point do we start taking responsibility in our own lives? I think that the media is an easy cover up for the lack of responsibility of adults. Furthermore, the media is a business, not a tutor or a parent or a preacher. Blaming the media for real problems will not lead to solutions because it is not the cause of these problems. Admitting the problem is the first step towards resolution. Please, stop blaming the media.

Finally, I can agree with an argument about the media- it is NOT the blame for all of society's problems! The media is simply a mirror of what happens in day-to-day life and reflects what people want to see. Media sources should never and cannot take the place of an important adult figure in the lives of youth today.

The media is not to blame for the way people act. In fact, the media is only responding to what is being already present. It is the responsibility of the parent to shield there children from inappropriate content. I agree many things the media covers is racy and not suitable for children, however, i do not think that it should be censored. There are plenty of programs designed for children and that is what they need to be watching. The media cannot be the sole care giver to anyones child.
I believe media should still take an active role in bettering our community. Media obviously doesn't deserve all the blame, parents and other agents of socialization should be held responsible.
But as such a promininet influence in society, the media (radio, tv,etc) should do a greater job in positively influenceing the society they affect. The media has great power that can be used for the greater good. And just becuase they aren't totally to blame doesn't mean they shouldn't do better.
While the media is a major agent of socialization, it is not the only agent of socialization. Family, peer groups, and religion are also agents of socialization which shape what people do. Moreover, media is used to pass information. What people chose to do with that received information is up to them. Referring back to the aforementioned methods of agents of socialization, morals and values are shaped; media can serve to reinforce principles and values or it can go against them.
I believe that parents look towards the media to blame instead of looking at themselves when their child has problems. If parents reinforced values and morals in their children, then “following the media” wouldn’t occur.
The first step is admitting the problem. The next step should be mutual responsibility. People must begin to take ownership of their own lives and actions. However, the media must be held accountable for creating and maintaining this dependence. Times have changed and it is unrealistic to expect the influence of the media to reverse. In order to move forward, we must demand accountability from all parties involved.

You are right, the media is a business and they are out to get there money just like everybody else, so they are not to blame. The responsibility is for the families to make sure they are monitoring their children.
Although I do agree that media is not to blame for all of society's problems, I must add that the media has a MAJOR affect on our youth today. I mean, take music videos for instance... Majority of our youth today are exposed to much violence, sex, and drugs in the media. Sure, it is the obligation of the parent to mold their children into adulthood. However, in the end, the "choice" is the child's. The media is not completely responsible for the outcome of children, but it still should take in consideration what image it is giving off to them.

I do agree that the media is not completely to blame. Parents amd other agents of socialization should be fully responsible for the upbringing of their children. Media has no part in this matter.
I think the writer made very good points that people do not consider.
